Introduction to NGVs, Fueling and Maintenance Facilities

In just one day, you will understand natural gas vehicles and fueling and whether/how they can be successfully incorporated into your fleet or business. You will learn about using natural gas as a transportation fuel, how it differs from liquid fuels, and how managing a natural gas powered fleet is unique.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand natural gas origin, supply, and distribution techniques.
  • Understand the properties of compressed natural gas; identify the differences as compared to liquid fuels.
  • Describe the advantages/disadvantages of compressed natural gas as a motor vehicle fuel.
  • Understand the basic components and operating principles of CNG-powered vehicles.
  • Become familiar with OEM and SVM natural gas vehicles available for purchase.
  • Understand the principles of CNG fueling and how it works.
  • Become familiar with the three basic types of CNG fueling stations and their applications.
  • Understand the basic components of CNG fueling stations and their functions.
  • Understand safety aspects and practices of a vehicle maintenance facility (VMF) where natural gas vehicles will be maintained or repaired.
  • Describe the codes, standards and industry best practices used to determine modifications necessary to existing VMFs.
  • Understand the components (lighting, heating, electrical, ventilation, building envelope) affected by codes, standards and industry best practices where NGVs will be maintained or repaired.
