This intensive two-day course will provide you with the most up-to-date methods and practices for sizing, designing, specifying, permitting, and construction of compressed natural gas fueling stations. You will learn how to design stations that are cost-effective, safe, meet code requirements and the needs of your customers. Register Now

The course is especially for design, specifying, operation and maintenance engineers and technicians, equipment vendors, permitting firms, code officials, fire marshals and NGV fleet operators who want to acquire or currently have on-site CNG fueling.

The course will teach you how to size station equipment appropriately to meet your fleet's needs, how to specify the right equipment in a way that meets all code requirements and the fueling needs of your NGVs. This is the only course available that offers the detailed, technical information you and your staff needs to successfully size, design, and specify a CNG fueling station.

When you successfully complete the course and pass a written exam, you will receive a certificate verifying that you have received training in the latest fueling station technologies.

The curriculum includes a class manual with room for notes and a CD with over 300 pages of material useful in specifying and designing a compressed natural gas fueling station.

Leo Thomason, a nationally recognized expert on compressed natural gas fueling stations, teaches the course. Curriculum Modules:

Module 1 - General Information
This section provides an introduction to the two-day course. You will receive definition of key concepts and terms and learn the 12 major questions to ask before you begin to size a natural gas fueling station.

Module 2 - Introduction to Compressed Natural Gas
A full discussion of the properties of natural gas and relevant safety concerns is presented, as well as a thorough discussion of gas quality issues.

Module 3 - Codes and Regulations Relating to CNG Refueling Stations
This section deals with NFPA 52/Uniform Fire Code and the codes referenced by them. In addition, the more publicized regional codes are also addressed and compared to NFPA 52/Uniform Fire Code.

Module 4 - CNG Refueling Station Equipment
An overview of the most common station configurations is provided, followed by a detailed review of the individual
subsystems.

Module 5 - Station Sizing and Budgeting
Participants will learn how to assemble the relevant information necessary for proper sizing and designing of a CNG fueling facility. A discussion of background information is included to help you make major decisions such as gas engine vs. electric motor prime mover. Typical equipment costs are provided as benchmarks. Sample case studies are used to assist participants in working through the sizing and budgetary processes.

Module 6 - Detailed Station Design
In this module, site equipment design issues are addressed. How to develop an overall philosophy for writing specifications, including an outline of the required components, is also fully detailed.

Module 7 - Permitting
In this section, a detailed review of drawings is provided, along with a review and discussion of various permitting issues and equipment approvals.

Module 8 - Construction
An overview of the construction process is provided in this module, including inspection requirement information.

Module 9 - Safety Planning/Reviews/Procedures
In this module, safety and emergency procedures for use around CNG powered vehicles and stations are provided.

Module 10 - Facility Safety NGV Maintenance
This module provides guidance in the area of changes and upgrades required to safely maintenance natural gas vehicles.

Module 11 - User Integration Program
When a CNG project is unsuccessful, a contributing factor is lack of training for mechanics, drivers, and fuel-suppliers. An overview of a model Training and User Integration Program will be presented, as well as instructions on how to implement such a program in your company.
